Exterior view: The Byker Bridge (carrying the A193) across the Ouseburn Valley. The road on top of the bridge and he deck were rebuilt 1985-1986.
The area to the right of the photograph is part of The Village Green a small green space built into the area as part of the Ouseburn Community Green Spaces Project built across the area as part of the regeneration programme. Set in a small valley near the mouth of the Ouseburn into the River Tyne. Once an area of industrial buildings, including glass and pottery works as well as flour and wind mills and crossed by railway and road bridges. It has been redeveloped to include arts buildings, a riding stables, green spaces, a city farm, a music and performance venue and residential accommodation. The regeneration programme has been driven by the Ouseburn Trust, established in 1996, whose mission statement is to "work for the benefit of a sensitively regenerated Ouseburn Valley, built on the past and looking to a sustainable future."
