Detail.
Location: In front of the Children's Hospital, Western Bank. It was moved from its original position at the main entrance of the Children's Hospital to a site further along the front facade of the building when the entrance was altered. Description: Aptly named, the tubing twists over and over at the end of a vertical thrust. Commission: Sheffield Children's Hospital in its centenary year. Details appear on a plaque onsite: Inscription: "DOUBLE SOMERSAULT" / by William Pye / Erected in 1976 by / The Centenary Committee / of the Children's Hospital / with the aid of the Arts Council Comment: A similar piece by Pye was sited for some years close to the Mappin Art Gallery in neighbouring Weston Park. |
