Exterior detail: railings in Castle Square. Part of a two stage development first railings in Castle Square (1995) then railings and a handrail in the adjacent Angel Street (1997). Location: Castle Square, Sheffield City Centre. Description: Highly polished rounded railings, one and a half metres high. The half circle links between uprights owe a lot in design to Payne's jewellery. Commission: Sheffield City Council. European Regional Development Funding. Comment: The railings were felt to be so successful that when the adjoining Angel Street refurbishment took place two years later Payne produced similar designs for this space. Brett Payne's work can also be seen in SHIMMER with his contribution to the Millennium Canteen. Produced under percent for art scheme.
