Description:
Interior view: Nave. View looking towards the West End of the church. The Nartex is behind the wall and doors at the end of the nave. Building dates between 1096 and 1215. The apse and choir were badly damaged by fire in 1165 and were replaced, in a Gothic style, between 1185 and 1215. The crosses on the wall were carried during the Crusade of Peace (1946) a pilgrimage of reconciliation by French and German churches at the end of WW2. Links with German churches persist to this day and the crosses are also a tourist attraction. The church, itself, sits at the top of a hillside village which is a hugely popular tourist destination.
