Exterior detail: Figure of War high on the facade of the Town Hall overlooking Surrey Street. (One of two staues on this side of the building, the other depicting 'Peace') Commission: Sheffield Town Council. F.W. Pomeroy was awarded the commission to carry out and supervise the carving for the building. The architect for the Town Hall was G.W. Mountford. The building was opened by Queen Victoria on May 21, 1897. Comment: F.W. Pomeroy was the sculptor for a number of monuments in London and also the 4 upstream figures on Vauxhall Bridge (1907).
