Description:
Exterior view: looking down the river from the Hohenzollern Bridge. The nearest building is nearing completion, the other two are built. 15 storey buildings: two of which contain offices, the third is residential. Sited in the former river port south of the city centre, the silhouette of these buildings suggests the cranes that once stood on the riverbank in this area. A vast underground car park was first constructed which also incorporates the foundations for these buildings. Designed as iconic buildings, one original concept had a foot of the buildings anchored in the river itself. Cologne Harbour was constructed 1878-1898 but was abandoned as a viable port after WW2. The area is being redeveloped (1992-) with some of the important old buildings preserved alongside new buildings. The area is separated into cultural, residential and commercial zones.
