Description:
Interior view: The Penguin Pool. The pool is no longer thought a suitable place for keeping penguins, but as a listed building Grade 1 must remain in the zoo, although it is now unoccupied. A revolving fountain keeps the ramps wet. The flat paths are coated in plastic rubber and the steps are made from slate. The pool was listed in 1970 and restored in 1988. The building in the distance is the Elephant House (Sir Hugh CASSON, 1962-5) - also no longer used for its original purpose. [photographed on September 23, 2009]
