Detail: Awareness points on wall in hostel: "Reduce - Reuse - Recycle / YHA Lockton has made use of many recycled, materials, from the bricks used for the extensions, to the picnic tables outside. Even the coasters and table mats are made from recycled plastic!" and "Environment / To encourage wildlife we've provided some cosy homes. Look out for the bird and bat boxes, hedgehog house, bumble bee house and even a house for ladybirds!" "Welcome to Lockton, YHA's first Green Beacon Youth Hostel, an exemplar of sustainable tourism..." Its walls are covered with circular notices, "Awareness Points", highlighting the eco-friendly features in the hostel. The YHA's first eco-hostel, re-opened in March 2005 after extensive reconstruction. Originally the village school. Features include wool insulation in the walls and roof, a rainwater harvesting system, live sedum roof, a compost toilet and photovoltaic cells.
