Memorial to Richard III
Bosworth Field, Leicestershire
Detail. Plaque on the boulder in the small field in which Richard III is believed to have been killed at the Battle of Bosworth. Someone has left white roses on the boulder - the white rose being the emblem of the House of York to which Richard belonged. The battle was the final conflict of the Wars of the Roses. The inscription reads: Richard, the last / Plantagenet King of / England was slain here / 22nd August 1485.
