A plaque beneath the piece has the following inscription: "Nightly Revels & New Jollity. A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act V, Scene 1". Commission: Sheffield Theatres, at the time of the refurbishment of the Lyceum. Funded by the J.G.Graves Charitable Trust. Artist's Comment: "The piece represents that moment when the curtain goes up and the magic of theatre is about to begin." Jeni Ross donated the original gouache painting for this work to the City Art Galleries.
