Description:
Technical drawing for the grilles. Location: Cambridge Court, Carver Street. Description: The grilles appear like 'balconies' fashioned from horizontal bars, which end in wire flourishes. A wire cluster ornaments the lintel over the paired first and second floor windows. Commission: HLM Architects for Northern Counties Housing. Comment: The artist feels that there are often too many straight lines and not enough organic references in building design, hence the embellishments on the grilles. As the building is for residents, the wire ornaments are only visible from the exterior, they are out of the range of vision of anyone living in the building.
